Human Weds Mobile : choice is ours : self-help only can cure

Human Weds Mobile : choice is ours : self-help only can cure

Mobile evolution has made revolution in India. Almost everyone is hooked to mobile. many have more than one mobile. Tele-density is so much increased that calls drop has become normal. 24X7 people of almost all age are busy with mobile. The mind is busy with more than one work at a time. The most worst one, is driving and talking on mobile.

Can we save ourselves of this addiction? Can anyone else help us?

Only we ourselves have to be disciplined to use the mobile. Otherwise health and stress problem likely to create lifestyle diseases at younger age.

Dr Viviek Jain : gave a good vision of affects of excessive mobile use by HUMAN in a humorous way. Mobile has become our spouse or even more than the spouse.

Body Mass Index BMI 19-20-21 or Vital stattistics 36-24-36 or Zero figure?

BMI stands for Body Mass Index. Everyone has a different BMI. To find out what yours is, all you need to know are your height and weight. Until you're around age 21, your age and gender need to be factored into your BMI to account for the different speeds at which boys and girls develop. Your BMI doesn't tell you everything you need to know about your health, but it's a quick way to tell whether or not you might be underweight or overweight.

Hour glass figures having 36-24-36 (bust-waist-hips) proportionate were and are popular among females to look SEXY. Advertisement and marketing companies as well as fashion industry do motivate females to go for unrealistic body image. But more important is your BMI then the vital statistics for healthy body. It is better that parents of preteen daughters make the teenage daughter understand the importance of body development during puberty through exercise and diet and postures. Once the puberty /teenage is over, it will be difficult to change the bone structure, height and reproductive organs perfect growth.

One of the biggest questions boys and girls have as they grow and develop during PUBERTY and TEENAGE, is whether they're the right weight. One place to start is by learning about body mass index, or BMI, a calculation that estimates how much body fat a person has proportionate to his or her weight and height. BMI is used as a screening tool to identify possible weight problems for teenagers.

1. Before calculating BMI, obtain accurate height (Meters) and weight (Kilograms) measurements.
2. The BMI number is calculated using standard formulas.

Kilograms and meters (or centimetres/100) Formula: weight (kg) / [height (m)]2
As an example if the height is 150 centi meters and weight is 50 kgs.
Then 150 centi meters is 150/100= 1.5 meters
50 kgs divided by 1.5 meters X 1.5 meters = 50 / 2.25
= 22.22 BMI kg per meter square

One can review the calculated BMI-for-age percentile and results of similar teenagers gender wise and community wise. The BMI-for-age percentile is used to interpret the BMI number because BMI is both age-and gender-specific for children and teens. These criteria are different from those used to interpret BMI for adults — which do not take into account age or gender.

Age and gender are considered for preteens and teens for two reasons. The amount of body fat changes with growing age during puberty. Also the amount of body fat differs between girls and boys. Even BMI for INDIANS teenagers and AMERICAN TEENAGERS will be different. BMI may not correspond to the same degree of fatness in different populations due, in part, to different body proportions. The health risks associated with increasing BMI are continuous and the interpretation of BMI grading in relation to risk may differ for different populations.

Healthy weight ranges change with each month of age for each sex during puberty, growth spurt period. Healthy weight ranges change as height increases and it is different for every individual. Actual BMI can be perfectly calculated once the growth spurt is totally complete at around the age of 19.

BMI can help doctors identify people who are overweight and at risk of developing medical problems like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Doctors can monitor that person's weight and make recommendations about healthy eating and exercise. BMI can also suggest the malnutrition during PUBERTY, and doctors can suggest remedies like intake of iron tablets or adequate food intake.

It's very common for teens to gain weight quickly — and see their BMI go up — during puberty. Those changes may be a normal part of development (for example, someone with a large frame or lots of muscle can have a high BMI.) Or, the changes can be a sign of future weight problems. Your doctor can help you figure out whether weight gain is a normal part of development or whether it's something to be concerned about. Too much body fat is a problem because it can lead to illnesses and other health problems. BMI, although not a perfect method for judging someone's weight, is often a good way to check on how a teenager is growing.

Classification BMI(kg/m2)

Underweight less than 18.50
Severe thinness less than 16.00
Moderate thinness 16.00 - 16.99
Mild thinness 17.00 - 18.49
Normal range 18.50 - 22.99
23.00 - 24.99
Overweight above 25.00
Pre-obese 25.00 - 29.99
Obese above 30.00
Obese class I 30.00 - 34.99
Obese class II 35.00 - 39.99
Obese class III above 40.00
Source: Adapted from WHO, 1995, WHO, 2000 and WHO 2004.
In recent years, there was a growing debate on whether there are possible needs for developing different BMI cut-off points for different ethnic groups due to the increasing evidence that the associations between BMI, percentage of body fat, and body fat distribution differ across populations and therefore, the health risks increase below the cut-off point of 25 kg/m2 that defines overweight in the current WHO classification.

Learn to say NO...to....TOBACCO, ALCOHOL, DRUGS, SEX.

Adolescents by the time reach to their legal adult age, firm up their own identity in family, among friends and in the society at large. Unlike western countries, Indian adolescents in the age group 18 years to 25 years are still dependent on their parents financially. Indian family, social and cultural values are strong.

These strong values of life and bubbling young adult age fight with each other. The age seeks experimentation and adventure in the unexplored areas. The young boys & girls or may call them young men and women are at the crossroads of their life, where if they learn to say ‘NO’ to undesirable products or behavior, they will learn to live healthy, happy and safe life.

Today, due to revolution in internet and communication technologies, information access has become very easy and confidential. Mass media, print as well as electronic, are bombarding promotional information and advertisement on this highly potential and vulnerable age group.

Potential risk areas are:

* Chewing and smoking of TOBACCO
* Drinking of ALCOHOL
* Experimentation with DRUGS
* Experimentation with SEXUAL activities.

The young adults, men and women should be made aware of the after effects of all the above. Choice is left to them, which path they would like to travel on to reach their life goal.

The first three, tobacco, alcohol and drugs are in any form injurious to their own health. If one gets addicted after experimentation, it becomes difficult to leave. So adolescents have to learn to say “NO” to even at experimentation stage itself.

The fourth area of experimentation with sexual activities is the most difficult to say “NO”, because as such SEX is not injurious to health. In view of this each adolescents will have to know their own sexuality and sexual urge during critical age period that is their biological maturity for reproduction and their social maturity of reproduction (After Marriage).

The menstruation in females and wet-dream in males is the starting age where healthy discussion can start about reproductive healthcare between parents and adolescents. The college life is the age where infatuation and attraction towards opposite gender is normal. Daydreaming and sexual fantasy becomes very natural during these college days. Experimentation with Masturbation by both the gender is normal and healthy behavior.

The adolescents have to learn the purpose of Abstinence, to delay sexual activities till the marriage. They should know that menstruation, wet-dream and masturbation is not dirty, but they are biological and emotional processes.

More than that all adolescents should be made aware about likely genital infections, symptoms, and its preventive care. Daily Hygienic care is must. They learn to distinguish about healthy and unhealthy sexual behavior.

How To Self Examine Your Breasts?

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women, accounting for over 30 percent of all cancers women get. Early detection is essential for best treatment and regular mammograms after age 40 plus clinical breast exams (CBE) in the 20s and 30s at least every three years by a health professional, and annually after 40, are the keys to early detection.

Why Examine Your Breasts?

The American Cancer Society recommends that all young women over 20 be advised about the benefits and limitations of breast self examination and be told of the value of breast awareness so they can report any changes to their doctors. Some women can become “stressed” about doing the exam “right” or finding something actually normal, which has become a concern about BSE. It is very unlikely that a teenage girl will develop breast cancer.
So why examine your breasts?

Many adolescent specialists feel it’s appropriate to teach BSE to interested adolescents. First, adolescent girls need to discover what their breast tissue normally looks and feels like so that any changes will be easier to detect in the future. Second, breast self-exams can be an important health habit to learn and a wonderful way a teenage girl can begin taking care of herself and reduce later anxiety. In addition, there may be noncancerous breast problems that teen girls will be able to detect by doing breast self-exam, such as infections, cysts, unusual pain or irritation from sport activities.

When to Examine Your Breasts

The best time to do a breast self-exam is during the week after your menstrual period when the breasts are usually less tender or swollen. If your periods are irregular, then you should choose a day of each month (on the day that matches your birthday, for example) and do the exam each month on that day. While doing a breast self-exam, you should remember that it is normal to have some lumpiness or thickening in the breasts, especially during the adolescent years. It’s fine to do the exam regularly or just occasionally.
How to Examine Your Breasts (Courtesy of the American Cancer Society)
Lie down and place your right arm behind your head.
Use the finger pads (where fingerprints are taken) of the 3 middle fingers on your left hand to feel for lumps in the right breast. Use small, dime-sized circular motions of the finger pads to feel the breast tissue.

Use 3 different levels of pressure to feel all the breast tissue. Light pressure is needed to feel the tissue closest to the skin; medium pressure to feel a little deeper; and firm pressure to feel the tissue closest to the chest and ribs. It is normal to feel a firm ridge in the lower curve of each breast, but you should tell your doctor if you feel anything else out of the ordinary.

Move around the breast in an up and down pattern starting at an imaginary line drawn straight down your side from the underarm and moving across the breast to the middle of the chest bone (breastbone). Be sure to check the entire breast area going down until you feel only ribs and up to the neck or collar bone. There is some evidence to suggest that the up-and-down pattern (sometimes called the vertical pattern) is the most effective pattern for covering the entire breast, without missing any breast tissue.

Repeat the exam on your left breast, putting your left arm behind your head and using the finger pads of your right hand to do the exam.

While standing in front of a mirror with your hands pressing firmly down on your hips, look at your breasts for any changes of size, shape, contour, or dimpling, or redness or scaliness of the nipple or breast skin. (The pressing down on the hips position contracts the chest wall muscles and enhances any breast changes.)

Examine each underarm while sitting up or standing and with your arm only slightly raised so you can easily feel for lumps in this area.(Raising your arm straight up tightens the tissue in this area and makes it harder to examine).

The purpose of breast self-exam is to learn what is normal and notice any changes that occur. Report any changes or concerns to your doctor. Since breast cancer may be successfully treated if discovered and treated early, delaying the diagnosis of breast cancer does not change the diagnosis, it only worsens the outcome.
